It was released on June 14, 1980 by Columbia Records, peaking at No. 34 on the Billboard 200 on August 23 and holding for two weeks. Despite a return to the band's heavier roots following their experiment with a more radio-friendly sound on Mirrors, it did not receive Gold certification. Cultösaurus Erectus is the first of two albums produced by Martin Birch, who would return for the following album, Fire of Unknown Origin. This album spawned one single in the United States, "Here's Johnny (The Marshall Plan)" / "Divine Wind", which did not chart. The following tour to promote the album, the Black and Blue Tour, saw Blue Öyster Cult co-headlining arenas with Black Sabbath at the suggestion of Sandy Pearlman, who was at the time managing both bands. The resulting video, Black and Blue, contained footage from both bands' performance on October 17, 1980 and was released to theatres after the tour's conclusion in 1981. == Personnel == === Blue Öyster Cult === * Eric Bloom – guitar, keyboards, vocals * Albert Bouchard – drums, vocals * Joe Bouchard – bass, vocals * Allen Lanier – guitar, keyboards * Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser – guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals === Additional musicians === * Don Kirshner – vocals ("The Marshall Plan") * Mark Rivera – saxophone ("Monsters") === Production === * Martin Birch – producer, engineer * Clay Hutchinson – engineer * Bruce Slayton – TCB * George Geranios – TCB * Paula Scher – cover design * Richard Clifton-Dey – front cover art * American Museum of Natural History – back cover photos * Special thanks to Tony Cedrone, George Geranios, the Kingdom Sound Staff, Bob Se, See Factory Industry * Very special thanks to Don Kirschner == Track listing == {| class="wikitable" !# !Title !Writer(s) !Lead vocals !Length |- | colspan="5" |Side one |- |1 |Black Blade |Bloom, Michael Moorcock, John Trivers |Bloom |6:34 |- |2 |Monsters |A.
