It was released on July 7, 2023 by RockHeart Records, an imprint of Deko Entertainment owned by Albert and Joe Bouchard.

The album consists mainly of material previously recorded by Blue Öyster Cult (as well as Stalk-Forrest Group), with the exception of six songs. "Mountain of Madness" is the only new song co-written by Sandy Pearlman. "The Queen's Graveyard", "Mothra & Starfish", and "Buddha's Knee" were written for Soft White Underbelly, the precursor to Blue Öyster Cult, and never saw an official release during the time they were regularly being performed. "Welcome to Desdanovaland" and "Arianna of Earth" are entirely new compositions by Albert Bouchard and Susie Loraine.

One song, "Port Jefferson", was intended by Pearlman to be included on Mutant Reformation; however, the original demo for this song was unable to be found prior to the album's release and it was not included. After the album's release, Bouchard found the lyrics and the chord chart for the song and has expressed interest in releasing it in the future.
