The album was recorded over a period of nearly two years, spanning from the 1980 ''[[Mirrors (album)|Mirrors]]'' tour to the 1981 ''[[Fire of Unknown Origin (album)|Fire of Unknown Origin]]'' tour, with two tracks recorded during the ''Black and Blue'' tour alongside Black Sabbath, with whom Blue Γyster Cult shared a manager in [[Sandy Pearlman]].
