If I Fell is the twelfth and final track from Blue Öyster Cult's sixteenth studio album, Ghost Stories. This song was originally recorded in 1964 by English rock band The Beatles and was not a known staple of live Blue Öyster Cult performances, having only been played a handful of times between 2005 and 2011.
It was released as a music video on May 8, 2024. The video was recorded on the same day as 40th Anniversary - Agents of Fortune - Live 2016 and given a black-and-white filter as an homage to the Beatles' 1964 film A Hard Day's Night.[1]
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
If I fell in love with you
Would you promise to be true
And help me understand?
'Cause I've been in love before
And I found that love was more
Than just holding hands
If I give my heart to you
I must be sure
From the very start that you
Would love me more than her
If I trust in you, oh, please
Don't run and hide
And if I love you too, oh, please
Don't hurt my pride like her
'Cause I couldn't stand the pain
And I
Would be sad if our new love
Was in vain
So, I hope you see that I
Would love to love you
And that she will cry
When she learns we are two
'Cause I couldn't stand the pain
And I
Would be sad if our new love
Was in vain
So, I hope you see that I
Would love to love you
And that she will cry
When she learns we are two
If I fell in love with you

The decision was made not to use it at the time, but we were provided a "rough cut" copy from which this is derived. The audio was given the "demix/remix" treatment and the video was processed to monochrome as an homage to A HARD DAYS NIGHT." —Blue Öyster Cult (May 8, 2024), If I Fell BOC, YouTube, retrieved May 8, 2024.
